Jacob I Loved and Esau I Hated

This is a sermon by Peter Hiett, pastor of “The Sanctuary Downtown” Denver CO. It  is a response to a video by Dr. Robert Morey which I have posted on my blog titled, “The Shocking Reality of Calvinism.”

Another excellent explanation on this perplexing passage is this article by George Sarris: Jacob I have Loved…

See also my short explanation on this passage on my other blog related to this topic (Scroll down past the video):  Shocking Reality of Calvinism

I am working on another short article on this passage I hope to add here soon.

About Peter Hiett

Peter is passionate about the God he believes in – the God who loves each and every single person in the whole world – past, present, and future. Peter is also an author. Philip Yancey, a well known and popular Christian author, writes on the front cover of Peter’s book, “Eternity Now,” published by Integrity Publishers:

“Week in, week out, Peter Hiett is one of the best teachers I have ever heard.”

On Peter’s website he explains a little about his theology. Here is an excerpt:

“Theology comes from two words in Greek; “Theos” (which means “God”) and “Logos” (which means “Word”). So “theology” literally means “God Word” or “Word of God.” Your Theology is your “Word of God.” According to Scripture Jesus is the Word of God….According to Scripture, “The Word of God” became flesh and dwelt among us, full of Grace and Truth. Out of jealously and in an effort to control and use Him for our own purposes, we took His life on the tree. And yet, He gave his life on the tree, body broken and blood shed—such that the tree of death (the cross) became the tree of life (the cross). He gave His Life to us and rose from the dead. He is our “theology.”

Your Theology matters. Your “Word of God” matters. Jesus matters. He is God. He reveals God. He is the commandment of God. And He saves you.

Your theology is your picture of God. If it’s dead, you’re dead. If it’s (He’s) alive, you’re alive. Living Theology in you is Christ in you. It’s faith.

Jesus said, “Whoever has seen me has seen the Father.”

He also said, “Love your enemies and do good… and you will be sons of the Most High, for He is kind to the ungrateful and evil. Be merciful as your Father is merciful.”

How is our Father Merciful? …Does He endlessly torture his enemies, the ungrateful and the evil?
How is our Father Merciful? …The answer is to define our every action.
How is our Father Merciful? …That’s a theological question.
How is our Father Merciful? …The answer really matters.
How is our Father Merciful? Answer: “Jesus Christ and Him crucified.”

Not simply an idea, list or law, but a story, a person, a presence in our lives. He is a risen presence in our lives and His story is recorded in Scripture. Scripture, which He said, “cannot be broken.” And yet it must be “revealed.” Through His Spirit, Christ reveals the meaning of Scripture, just as he revealed it to the disciples on the road to Emmaus that first Easter long ago.

Well you see, our theology tells us what God our Heavenly Father is like. And that faith—the Word of God in us—that Faith in our Heavenly Father, makes us who we are. In other words, Jesus tells us what God is like and Jesus makes us who we truly are. Jesus is the Logos of Theos, the Word of God. Theology matters.

I hope you see that bad theology, (which is really not theology)… bad theology is the crucifixion of Christ; the death of Love; it’s using lists and laws to justify the self and condemn others. But real theology is Worship, real theology is Love, real theology is Jesus… in us.

Little children can “do it.” Egghead theologians can “do it.” We each must “do it.” We each must exercise Faith in our Heavenly Father. That’s how we become who we truly are.

Theology matters.”

Thank you Peter!

BACK COVER

―“I love Hope Beyond Hell; it changed my life. After 60 years of being afraid of God, I was finally introduced to the true God of infinite love, who is bound neither by time nor death; the Savior of the whole world.” — Dr. Terry Schwartz Prof., Wheaton College

―“Have you been tormented by the thought of dying? Do you know the anguish of thinking that you or a loved one might suffer in hell forever? You are not alone. As I read Hope Beyond Hell, I cried for joy. It assures us of a Love that never gives up on us no matter how miserably we fail.” — Charles Slagle – author of “From the Father’s Heart.” Evangelist

―“Gerry Beauchemin backs up his hope, not with fancy theories, but by numerous Scriptures and quotes from Bible scholars of many generations. Everyone needs to read and study this book.” — Richard W. Rundell, Ph.D.

―“Hope Beyond Hell is one of the best books ever written showing from Scripture that God’s judgments are remedial, corrective, and temporary.” — Dr. Stephen Jones, M.Div., D.D., Author, speaker

―“As a hospice chaplain for 14 years, I counseled hundreds of dying patients. In my experience, Christians believing in eternal punishment, especially in literal fire, were much more fearful of death than others. How can this be since Christ came to free us from the fear of death (Heb. 2:15)? Hope Beyond Hell gives a Biblical basis for total peace in the face of death.” — Rev. Boyd Purcell, M.A., M.Div., Ph.D. Author, speaker; Board Certified Chaplain and National Board Certified Counselor

Hell Movie Coming Soon

There’s a movie about Hell to be released in September 2012. It’s a movie that challenges especially Christians to re-examine their thoughts on hell in light of the controversy surrounding it. I believe Rob Bell’s “Love Wins” set the stage, but now the movie is about to begin…

Some have asked what the movie is really about. Is it for Hell, against it, or what? Who better to answer that than the writer / director Kevin Miller. See this next video:

Israeli Inspires Me to Pray (2 min video)

Ronny’s love inspires me and moves me to pray for peace in Israel, Iran, the Middle East, and the whole world. Paul exhorts us to pray for all men. Will you pray with me according to the instructions of Paul in this passage?
“I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men… [Lord, we pray especially for Israel, Iran and the Middle East right now in light of the nuclear threat that Iran is imposing on Israel] for kings, and for all that are in authority; [especially the leaders of Iran and any others who desire Israel’s destruction] that we [especially Israel and Iran in this crucial time in world history] may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior; who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.
“Lord, you said ‘Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.’ We pray for Ronny in this video and all the peacemakers in Iran and the Middle East that their efforts will succeed. We pray that the message of this video will penetrate into all of Iran and reach Muslims throughout the Middle East that they will all see that the people of Israel are not their enemies but their brothers and sisters as children of God. What would you have us do Lord? Help us to be faithful in prayer. Thank you Lord.”

If you wonder sometimes if your prayers really matter, consider this meditation:

Internet Fire

Internet Fire by Alice Spicer

I believe we are living in a very unique time in the history of the Church. It is a time as historical as that of the New Testament age and of Martin Luther. In New Testament times the Greek language had become the international language over a vast geographical area surrounding the Mediterranean world. This made it possible for the Gospel to spread over land and sea to peoples of many cultures. In Luther’s time, it was the printing press. Through that new technology His passionate teachings were enabled to spread throughout all of Germany, effectively winning the hearts of the people. The rest is history. And today the internet has brought us a world of communication that fosters dialogue and interaction to a level never before seen or imagined. The average believer can now type a word in Google and instantly have a wealth of information to explore, and discussion groups and forums to engage in relative to any topic imaginable. We can no longer be censored by Church leaders, the powers that, up to now, have controlled what we could believe about God and philosophy. That power is waning. Now, more than ever, we are freed to seek the truth for ourselves before God. We can passively observe or actively participate in numerous discussions exploring all aspects of our faith and belief.

Please pray for the GOOD NEWS of God’s unfailing, unending love for all to spread across the internet and (thus the world) like a wild fire!

He won the hearts of the people and turned the tide of the Church’s power in controlling the masses.  The rest is history. And today the internet is doing the same thing, but taken it to an unlimited and global extent.  We have a God-given mandate  to explore, research, and yes, think and judge for ourselves what is right and true. (Luke 12:57; 1Cor 10:15; 1 Thes 5:21).

Please pray for the GOOD NEWS of God’s unfailing, unending love for all to spread across the internet and (thus the world) like a wild fire!

Every Eye Will See Him (A Worship Song)

I see an army - I hear a song
rise in the nations, beautiful and strong.
A song of mercy that shatters pride,
a song of great love that purifies.

I see warriors with hands upraised,
holding no weapon, but their swords of praise.
Strongholds shatter. Kings bow down
before the Master and yield their crowns.

And every eye will see Him as Love wins through at last.
And every heart be drawn unto the Lamb.
Every voice will cry out what every heart will know
and before the throne we stand.

I see the earth now, its groanings cease.
Creation lifts praise to the Prince of Peace.
Wars have ended and weapons fall.
An invitation to one and all.

I see the Church now as a passionate Bride.
I see her Lover with His fiery eyes.
All His longing and her desire
join as one flame in heaven's fire.

And every eye will see Him as Love wins through at last.
And every heart be drawn unto the Lamb.
Every voice will cry out what every heart will know
and before the throne we stand.

I see a kingdom that never ends.
I see a Judge now who calls sinners 'Friends'.
Who gathers rebels and overwhelms
Them with His mercy so He can dwell
in hearts He's captured and rules in love.
He wraps around them a robe dipped in blood.
His tears are washing their fears away
and then He lifts them to see His face.

And every eye will see Him as Love wins through at last.
And every heart be drawn unto the Lamb.
Every voice will cry out what every heart will know
and before the throne we stand.

All will gaze in wonder at the reach of heaven's plan.
How could mercy touch the lowest man?
Drawn from every nation, every voice,
and every tongue, amazed at what the Lord of Love has done.
amazed at what the Lord of Love has done.

I see a King now and I believe.
I hear His voice now and He's calling me.

A Jewish Woman’s Journey

Let me introduce Michelle Amirault whom I am privileged to know. Her faith in our awesome and amazing God is a great inspiration to me along with her husband’s Gary. Michelle and Gary lost their son Scott in 2010 whom some would have told them was not “saved.” Gary writes, “the grief of losing a son at only 35 cut much deeper than I ever would have imagined—even knowing he is in a better place. I cannot begin to imagine what our grief would be like if we believed Scott was being tormented forever in some hell because he failed God. It would be unbearable.” Read Gary’s journey story on page 255 of “Hope Beyond Hell.” They have a website (tentmaker.org) which has an exhaustive library of references supporting “The Victorious Gospel.”

Yes dear friends, Michelle is right; the Scriptures do line up with her awesome statements about God. I would like to share a few of those passages with you. CLICK HERE
